The First Interviewer

When the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” (Exodus 3:​4)

Why​ would the Omniscient, Omnipotent God​, The First Interviewer, use something like ​the art of interviewing to communicate with people? The answer is something I realized during my career​ as an ATF agent and continuous study of the Bible. While interviewing scores of victims, witnesses, suspects, and defendants, and as an interviewing​ and interrogation instructor, the insight and wisdom of the Scriptures became more clear. ​So, in th​ese pages we’ll examine five Biblical narratives, illustrated with personal and professional interviews, in which I identify some of the ​same interviewing skills that I learned, practiced, and developed over a thirty-two-year career in law enforcement.​
